If you prefer white wine, some of our favorites are Jordan Chardonnay, one of the best from the Russian River Valley in Sonoma, California; Hugel Pinot Gris Tradition from Alsace, France; Blue Fish Riesling from Pfalz, Germany; and Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand’s Wairau Valley.

Our favorite reds include Cakebread Cabernet from Napa Valley, California; Whispering Tree Merlot from the Washington’s Columbia Valley; Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir, an award-winner from the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in Walker Bay, South Africa; Layer Cake Shiraz from South Australia; and the world-class Achaval Ferrer Malbec Mendoza from Argentina.

If you are a champagne or sparkling wine lover, try the elegant Billecart-Salmon Brut Blanc de Blancs, blended from fruit grown in several grand cru villages of the Côte des Blancs in France; Gosset Brut Excellence from Champagne, France, with its aromas of pear and honeysuckle; or Piper-Heidsieck Rose Sauvage, a bold, deep-hued sparkling rosé from Champagne, France.

Pair Your Wine with Some Good Food

If you’re not familiar with dining on Grand Cayman, you may discover some unique ingredients and dishes that aren’t available at home.

For example, the Caymans are the only place in the world where you can legally eat turtle (available in the form of soup, steak and stew). Or try the conch (pronounced “conk”), an edible snail that is widely found throughout the Caribbean. It has a mild, sweet clam-like flavor and can be found in soup, stew, salad and spicy fritters.

Try the conch ceviche at the George Town Yacht Club, the conch fritters or Cayman Turtle Steak at the landmark Lobster Pot in George Town, the conch stew at Over the Edge in Old Man Bay on the North Side, or the conch soup at Heritage Kitchen in West Bay.

Although native to Jamaica, try some Cayman jerk chicken or pork that is smoked to perfection in rustic steel drum barrels. Seymour’s Jerk Centre in George Town, Red Bay Jerk Chicken in Grand Harbour, and Rankin’s Jerk Centre in Bodden Town are local favorites.

Where is the best place to buy wine in the Cayman Islands? Jacques Scott Wines & Spirits, of course! We have the largest selection on Grand Cayman and will deliver it to you for free.
